Interior views of the Twin Dome on Open Night 2023

By early 2023, with our fabulous new window installed and ready to transform the space with light, myself and Anne-Marie were turning our thoughts to the summer and the planning of a new art installation. Before the summer though, and after a four year hiatus, we had a chance to open the Twin Dome and welcome the public back to the observatory with a re-launch of Observatory Open Night.

First and foremost Open Night is a chance for the public to see – and possibly to look through – all the various telescopes including, of course, the enormous James Gregory Telescope in the main observatory building of the same name. The obvious requirement for Open Night is that it is held after dark and, in the event of clear skies, with a chance to see some stars. The slight downside is that visitors to the Twin Dome could see the changes we were making to the space but, as with previous Open Nights, were still viewing the interior only in artificial lighting. All the more reason to encourage them all to come back in the summer with the Sun flooding through the window.
