September 2024 – Beyond the Horizon in calm sailing

We opened the Twin Dome for Beyond the Horizon at the weekend (just gone) and got our best audience numbers for a Twin Dome event so far. I think that more and more folk are starting to pick up that there’s a new space at the observatory (or maybe an old space with a new mission) and that it’s also set in some very enjoyable surroundings – an under appreciated part of town in my opinion.

One concern of mine with the multiple columns of suspended transparencies (looking very much like the sail of a ship) was the possibility of a strong wind blowing into the space and creating havoc. In the making of it that did happen once or twice and my mitigation was a rope dragging along the bottom edge (making it even more like the sail of a ship). I ended up slightly disappointed with the relative dead calm that we actually got over both days. Oh well, I was prepared – and didn’t end up with a shipwreck.

Beyond the Horizon is open again on Saturday the 14th of September from 10am until 12am and then in the afternoon from 2pm until 4pm. It will also be open on Sunday the 15th of September from 2pm until 4pm.
